The City of Alpine presents the 2020 #AlpineTXPhoto Contest.

Break out those cameras! The City of Alpine is pleased to present the 2020 #AlpineTXPhoto Contest through September 30, 2020. This is the tenth year for the annual contest, which is named for the #AlpineTXPhoto hashtag which can be used to browse hundreds of previous contest photos on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Far West Texas residents and visitors are invited to participate and submit their photographs of Alpine, Texas. Local community members from the area are strongly encouraged to enter for a chance to showcase their talent and help in the promotional efforts of the City of Alpine. Online contest entry is already underway.

Entrants are asked to capture the city of Alpine in a personal, reflective way, bringing out the personality of the town.

“This year is obviously different in many ways, given the global public health emergency,” said Chris Ruggia, Alpine’s Director of Tourism. “So we have decided to adjust our contest a bit. To celebrate ten years of the #AlpineTXPhoto Contest, and also to require less travel during the pandemic, the contest will welcome resubmitting of previous entries for the first time as a sort of ‘Best of the Decade’.”

“Acknowledging the financial difficulties many of us are facing now, we also have increased our prize levels just for this special contest.” The contest offers five cash awards, with the top prize increased this year to $750.

“The contest has been a great promotional tool for the City of Alpine over the years,” said Ruggia. “It gives us access to an amazing array of photos that we can share with potential visitors.

“We have always offered a significant cash award to the winner to make it worth the photographers’ effort, and even with the increased prize levels the cost is very reasonable for the quality of images we receive that will help bring visitors here in the future. When it makes sense again to more actively promote visitation, this will help us to be ready.”

The photo contest will be judged this year by David Winslow. For the past 30 years, David has been photographing in Texas, Mexico, Guatemala and the southwestern U.S. He has exhibited his work at galleries in Mexico and Texas. After living in Mexico for 14 years, he currently resides in Alpine, Texas, where he has owned and operated Galeria Mañana since 2017.

The 2020 #AlpineTXPhoto Contest is free and open to the public. Entries will be accepted online until September 30, 2020. Those interested are invited to go to visitalpinetx.com/photocontest for more information, rules and details on entering the contest.
